Spring Cleaning My Mind

This weekend  was absolutely beautiful in Colorado. Winter may have been beating down the east coast, but here on the Front Range of the Rockies it was near 70 degrees. If I was suffering from the winter blues the past few weeks, this weekend it was full out spring fever.

Everywhere I looked people like me were basking in the golden rays of the sun. Couples walking dogs, children on bikes, runners with head sets; we were all  collectively shaking off our winter dull drums and anticipating the arrival of spring.

Observing the insanely long lines at every car wash I passed with people spraying off the mess of winter, my mind turned to spring cleaning. I was making a mental list of all the chores I wanted to tackle when I recalled an idea I had heard on the radio. Two people were discussing what they had given up for Lent. One person had given up self- pity and the other person was giving up resentment. This concept was much more interesting than not eating chocolate for a couple of weeks.  This was the kind of stuff that could transform a person. I took in a deep breath of the almost spring air and decided that an inner spring house cleaning would be a priority this year .

It is time for me to dust off my compassion and polish  my forgiveness. There is no room for judgement, resentment, anger, or any other self-defeating emotion if I am willing to forgive others, forgive myself,  and have compassion for life’s situations. I know myself well enough to know that I will miss the mark many times, It  doesn’t matter. This kind of house cleaning is an on going process. I fully expect that just when I think I have all the gunk cleaned out it will be time to clean again. I have every confidence it will be worth it.

As always, I would love to hear your thoughts.

Until next time,
